About Juan & Ivan
Nuñez del Prado
Juan is the foremost expert in the world on the Andean mystical tradition and the Q’ero Indians of Peru. As an anthropologist, mystic, and past University professor, he is one of the most important spiritual figures in South America. His father, Oscar ‘discovered’ the Q’ero, the last direct descendants of the Inka in 1949. Since 2005, Juan has worked together, with his son Ivan who has been a student of the Andean Path since seven years old, being initiated in Q’olloriti, one of the most powerful sacred sites in the Andes. It is said that you can never be a powerful Paq’o until you have ‘presented yourself’ to Lord Q’olloriti at least once. Working as a team, each representing their expertise in one aspect of the path – Juan working the right, mystical aspect and Ivan working the left, magical aspect – they model the powerful Inka concept of yanantin, harmonious relationship of aspects that are different.
The Andean tradition teaches ancient wisdoms, energy-transforming exercises and rituals needed for the raising of consciousness prophesied by the Inka.
An exciting new Nature-based spiritual program offering Inka initiations & teachings traditionally given in Peru in our own backyard! Juan wisely advises his students, “it is not necessary to go to Peru to have a mystical experience. You can do it right here in your own country” Thus the idea for the Karpay Mt. Shasta-Ashland was conceived. Juan suggests that we can establish a deep, mystical connection with the living energies of our local area without ever leaving the country! Through a series of beautiful rituals, ceremonies and despachos, participants work with the four ‘teqse apus’, the global spirits that can be seen at any point in the world: Father Sun, Father Wind, Mother Water, Mother Earth; considered crucial for all life on the planet. On this trip, we connect with local mountains, sacred sites, solar & water temples, lakes, hot springs - many of which have been used by Native peoples for thousands of years.
The basis of the Andean tradition is all about harmonizing energetic differences. Throughout the program we will build ‘seqes’ or energetic connections to similar sacred sites in Peru & throughout the world, thus harmonizing our country, our sacred sites with similar ones in Peru, and those on a global scale. First we start with us. We connect ourselves & our sacred landscape with Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, Wilkanusta River, Wiraqocha Temple, and Qorichancha Sun Temple. The original Hatun Karpay Initiations were done in Peru over 500 years ago, and now Juan brings this wisdom to our own country.
In the Andes, it is believed that you are born with an Inka Seed, a seed of personal potential that is waiting to be awakened, fed and nurtured.
Karpay Shasta-Ashland is an initiatory experience providing tools for the birthing and sprouting of this seed using the nature spirits of the Ashland & Mt Shasta areas. This is an opportunity to move your spirituality from something abstract to something that is ‘real’ and practical as you learn energetic practices and apply them to your daily life. Click here for more information about ‘What is the Hatun Karpay?”
Through involvement in the Andean practices you are changed – from being someone who has ‘forgotten' yourself to someone who remembers.’
Afternoon Arrival - Welcome and Introduction to sacred pilgrimage with Juan & Ivan at 2 pm. Overnight in Ashland.
Karpay Ayni, Reciprocal Initiation activating our Inka Seed in a day-long ritual that takes us through the 3 worlds of the Andean Tradition to feed and empower our seeds for our spiritual opening Inka Style. We make connections with the upper world (Hanaq Pacha) and the Holy Ones - male and female to remember that we are loved & not alone; with the Middle World (Kay pacha) and the nature beings of our environment; with underworld (Uju pacha) the world of the subconscious self. We will do a recapitulation looking at our lives and where we have been, where we are; and making a deep connection to our parents in this life to bring them into us, creating wholeness & peace. We make 2 despacho offerings, beautiful mandala-like ceremonies to the Sun & Wind. On this day, Juan & Ivan give us their Karpay, the initiation into their lineage. We make connections with the sacred sites in Peru ie. Cuzco Cathedral, Saqsaywaman, Amaru Machay Cave, Huaskar Lake, by connecting to sacred sites in Ashland. Drive to Mt. Shasta City in afternoon; overnight in Mt. Shasta.
Winay. Germination. Now that the seeds within us have been ‘awakened’ and honored by the elements of nature, they now go through the process of germination. Water, Earth, Sun and Wind are necessary parts of this process. Good thing we have plenty of those in the Mt. Shasta area. On this day we feed our Inka seeds with the energies of the elements, allowing them to sprout and begin to grow as we connect. This is the same ritual we do in the Sacred Valley of Peru. We begin by connecting with the three waterfall energies of the powerful McCloud River; initiations at each of the Falls, a revered place by the local Wintu tribe. Finding a high place to work with the Wind & to join energies with the Temple of Wiraqocha in Peru, connecting to the upper world feeding our seed with the refined, light living energy, called ‘sami’. Connecting to Mt Shasta through the famed portal at Ascension Rock.
Pachamama (Mother Earth). At Pluto’s Cave, a place with deep Pachamama connection we work with the 5 Nustas (princesses) each representing a different color cord, and quality of energy to empower our seeds - Black, Red, Silver & Gold & Green cords. This provides a deep connection to the Feminine, to the Mother, to feed and nurture our growing seed; and relates to one of the most powerful places in Machu Picchu - the Pachamama Cave. Here we will also bask in the energies of the Masculine by making a seqe to the Inka Wasi in Peru. Connect with the Inka & Qoya (King / Queen) energies inside ourselves and its outer expression in Nature. We then make a connection with to the 7 factors inside our seed & the corresponding 7 steps of the Andean Path of development, empowering our bubble with possibility. Through our connection with the underworld (ujupacha) and with the help of the Qoya & Inka, we trigger the process of germination. Now we have everything we need to flower!
The Apus. Mt Shasta. On this day we ritually shed our Feminine side (don’t worry we will pick it up again!) and incorporate a new, refined, fresh masculine energy from the surrounding Apus, mobilizing our seed’s dynamic energy and connecting us with male power. This ritual will empower us with the energies of Mt Shasta (& Huayna Picchu in Peru) and the powerful masculine energy that sleeps inside our seed. We make a connection to the Wiraqocha Temple, the prophesied place in Peru where the Inka & Qoyas first appear, where we open our energy bubble to the heavens and pull down the ‘crown’ of refined energies to empower our seed, to further our conscious development and to crown a new era. Perform Crowning Ritual.
Water Rituals of Purification at Stewart Mineral Springs, connecting with the White (Masculine) and Red (Feminine) Springs and harmonizing our bubbles with the refined energies of these extraordinary waters. The springs in Glastonbury have similar properties. In 2009, the renowned Dr. Masaru Emoto also discovered the refined energies of the Springs, taking a water sample back to Japan where it was crystallized and photographed. It is now called the Stewart Springs Water Crystal. We participate in a ceremony to infuse our energy bubble with this refined Masculine & Feminine Energy, feeding our Inka Seed. Crowning Ritual. End of program.
